The Nine Colors of Navratri and Their Significance in 2025

From September 22 to October 2, 2025, Navratri 2025 will be observed, culminating in Vijayadashami (Dussehra). The devotion of Goddess Durga in her nine heavenly forms is the focus of this revered Hindu festival, when a different color represents each day. In order to worship the Goddess and ask for her favors, devotees dress in these colors.

The importance of Navratri.

One of the most significant Hindu holidays, Navratri is observed with great fervor, fasting, dance (Garba/Dandiya), and religious rites. Four times a year, it is observed:

The most extensively observed of these are Shardiya Navratri and Chaitra Navratri. Shardiya Navratri, which falls in the month of Ashwina in 2025, will be celebrated with great fanfare throughout India, particularly in places like West Bengal, Assam, Bihar, and Odisha, where Durga Puja is held.

Navratri 2025: Nine Days and Their Colors

Every day of Navratri has a major color associated with it, and each of the nine days is devoted to a different manifestation of Maa Durga:

Day 1 (Pratipada–September 22, 2025): Yellow: Devoted to Maa Shailputri, this color represents joy and brightness.

Day 2 (Dwitiya–September 23, 2025): Green: Devoted to Maa Brahmacharini, it symbolizes harmony and fresh starts.

Day 3: Grey, a symbol of balance and power, celebrates Maa Chandraghanta (Tritiya, Sept. 24, 2025).

Day 4 (Chaturthi, September 25, 2025): Orange: Devoted to Maa Kushmanda, this color represents vigor and excitement.

Day 5 (Panchami, Sept. 26, 2025): White: Honors Maa Skandamata and symbolizes tranquility, serenity, and purity.

Day 6 (Shashti, September 27, 2025): Red: Honoring Maa Katyayani, this color represents strength, fervor, and bravery.

Day 7: Royal Blue: Denotes wealth and prosperity; devotion of Maa Kalaratri (Saptami, Sept. 28, 2025).

Day 8 (Ashtami, September 29, 2025): Pink: Devoted to Maa Mahagauri, this color is a representation of kindness, beauty, and love.

Day 9: Purple: Indicates wisdom and desire; adoration of Maa Siddhidatri (Navami, Sept. 30, 2025).

On October 2, 2025, Vijayadashami (Dussehra), which represents the triumph of virtue over evil, marks the festival's final day.

The Significance of Navratri Colors

 Wearing the designated Navratri colors promotes devotion, positivity, and peace in addition to strengthening one's spiritual bond with Goddess Durga. The attributes of the Goddess being worshipped on that particular day are represented by each color, which leads followers to prosperity, strength, and wisdom.
